USB Hubs soldered to PCs as I have read, usually give 0.5 A, which i think should be enough for one drive. Might not be the actual case but, if you're not using external power on the ext. hdds try getting enclosures with external AC... I think it should work. This means they have 4 pin firewire ports and can't power an external drive from it (although you can still *use* an external drive, you just need a power to power a conventional PATA/SATA hard drive through the bus in this way. All the FireWire/USB enclosures I've seen for such drives have separate power supplies.

If you have not yet decided on what hard drive to buy I suggest that if you have an eSATA connector on the back of the computer that you buy an external SATA enclosure with fan, SATA hard drive, and SATA cable. Most of these enclosures also have a usb interface so they are very flexible.
